| The Tickhill Internal Drainage Board was constituted in 1931under the Land Drainage Act. The first meeting being held on 30th September of that year.
The Board’s District lies within the areas covered by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and Bassetlaw District Council. The main centre of population being the town of Tickhill, which lies partially within the District. A small part of Harworth and Styrrup lie within the Board’s area. The Doncaster /Worksop Rd forms the Board’s western boundary whilst the eastern boundary is formed by Stripe Road and Styrrup Road.
The Mill Dam, which is a main feature in Tickhill, is outside of the Board’s district.
The Board’s district covers some 2,600 hectares and they maintain some 14.50km of watercourse.
The majority of the Board maintained watercourses are dependant upon gravity discharges into the River Torne (Goole Dyke). The exception to this is Middle Drain which following mining subsidence in the 1970’s is now pumped into the River Torne at Tickhill Low Common. This pumping station is owned by the Coal Authority and is operated by the Board on their behalf.
